Nursing Home Insurance Company Now Makes Use of Family Educational Video Mandatory for all Policyholders
Guide One Insurance, a leading insurer of not-for-profit senior living communities, has announced it is now requiring its nursing home policyholders to show then give families the video, Setting Realistic Expectations during the admission process of new residents. The 15-minute video, developed by Extended Care Products, Inc. helps educate families to have reasonable expectations regarding the day-to-day care nursing homes can provide, and why. With this education comes a better understanding, and the potential for a reduction of lawsuits against nursing homes.

“Nursing home operators are all too aware of the increased litigation. Many of these lawsuits are brought about by well meaning family members, who mistakenly assume the nursing home provides 24 hour, one-to-one care, or they attribute their loved one’s physical decline to a lack of care, instead of the natural progression of disease and aging,” states Linda L. Williams, LTC Risk Manager for GuideOne Insurance. “Because of these misunderstandings, it is critical that we do everything possible to educate family members and make sure their expectations of nursing home care are realistic.”

“We are proud to be working with GuideOne Insurance,” says Chip Kessler, Extended Care Products Development Manager. “Progressive companies like GuideOne are working to protect their policyholders against litigation that is running rampant against nursing homes.”
