New York State Health Facilities Association Becomes First To Endorse Care Plan Video Program
The New York State Health Facilities Association (NYSHFA) has become the first state healthcare association to endorse Extended Care Products' care plan video program, Care Plans: The Most Important Person. The 13-minute program encourages families and responsible parties to remain active and involved in the life of their loved one in the nursing home, and explains about the care plan process. As families become involved in the care of their loved one and associate with nursing home staff, a level of trust and cooperation develops.

"The thing I like best about the video is that it deals with the issue of expectations, both the facility's expectations of the family as well as the family's expectations of the facility," explains Karen Morris, NYSHFA Assistant Director of Quality Services. "Too often, family's have unrealistic expectations of what the facility is capable of and it sets everyone up for failure. This video emphasizes the importantance of open communication about common goals and realistic expectations, which creates an atmosphere of trust right from the start, so everyone wins"

Care Plans: The Most Important Person is to be given to the family or responsible party during that part of the admissions process when the subject of the resident's first care plan meeting is addressed. Family is to take the video program home to watch in anticipation of that initial care plan session.
